Five Under $50: Cool Coir Doormats for Spring!

15 May

I am loving these fun, cheap doormats for spring. Especially after all the long hikes we’ve been taking as a family. Hooray for a child who can walk more than 1/4 of a mile, but sigh at the child who thinks it’s fun to jump in muddy puddles and step in the occasional pile of mysterious nature stuff.

Which is your favorite? I really like the understated two-toned mat in #4 – it comes in lots of colorways!

Doormats!1.) $34  2.)$34  3.) $34  4.) $26  5.) $10 + craft supplies

MAY GIVEAWAY! Win $75 from Novica!

13 May

Last month, a fair trade home decor and more retailer called Novica approached me and asked that I review their new website on my blog. When I agreed to, they graciously offered a $75 gift certificate to one of my readers! How lucky for you guys!

Win $75 from Novica!

Novica is a fair-trade online retailer, in a partnership with National Geographic, that supports artisians around the world. They offer lots of unique goodies in the form of home decor, jewelry, art, furniture, and clothing. They even have really neat musical instruments! I really like how they provide biographical information on each of their artists, thereby facilitating a real connection with the products; for fair trade items, that’s really fitting and very neat.

Here are my top five picks for “home” from Novica. Each items is unique and lovely:

1.) Vase  2.) Basket  3.) Table   4.) Mirror  5.) Painting

They offer a wide range of price points, which makes Novica a fun place to shop even for those on a budget. For example, the rattan basket is under $60 while the painting is over $450. I scored this lamp for about $85 (notice it from the sneak-peek last week?):

Animal Pillow Round-up!

1 May

I’m a huge fan of animal pillows, but sometimes, they’re a little too technicolor or kitschy for my taste. Here are five great neutrals that will be at home in a forest of beige or in a technicolor landscape. Take your pick…either way, these add punch! Bonus: they’re not very expensive, either.

Pink and Green Picks!

18 Mar

Pink and green is a super classic combination (I could tell you about it via the tile floor in my childhood home…but I’ll save that for when I find photographs one of these days) but it’s often depicted as a extremely pop-ish or overly sweet. Not that there’s anything wrong with that approach, which is beloved by teenagers all over the world, but I want to point out that it can definitely be done in a way that is both a little more refined, a lot more subtle, and quite a bit less girly.

Here are five pink and green items that caught my eye because they take a typical combo and update it a bit.  I especially love the globe! Enjoy the round-up!

Color Friday is: Teal!

22 Feb

I’m pretty convinced this is the *it* color right now. I have three clients who are using some variation of it on their walls, in their furnishings, and as vibrant accents throughout the home. It’s slowly becoming one of my favorites, too.

Here are some of my favorite teal picks – many of them are better deals than you might guess! Enjoy, and have a great weekend!

Color Friday is: Black!

18 Jan

I haven’t done one of these Color Fridays in a while. So I’ll ease back into it with an easy, looks-good-on-everything color: BLACK!

Beautiful Black Rooms

(Top via Benjamin Moore, Bottom L via Pinterest (source unknown), Bottom R via Elle Decor)

I know black can be pretty dramatic. Some people find it depressing or too dark or moody. But I LOVE it. I think it’s a happy medium between serious masculinity and glamorous femininity. Lots of clients are gravitating toward black floors and railings, which I think is extraordinarily beautiful…dusty and fingerprinty…but beautiful and worth it. I find black to be a wildly sophisticated and easy to work with color, so bring on the black!

Any of these items would be lovely in a room with equally dark walls, gallery whites, or pastel brights. One of the best things about black is its versatility. Not only does it pair well with almost everything, but it is just as at home with grandma’s antiques as it is with the acrylic ghost chair you ordered last week.

Color Friday is: Black!

Clockwise from pendant at top:   Pendant.   Mohair Pillow.   Globe.   Table Lamp.  Chest.   Rug.  Table.   Chalk.

Enjoy! And have a great long weekend!

ANOTHER Sneak Peek: A Great Green Space!

14 Nov

I certainly haven’t been blogging regularly lately, but…as promised…I have another sneak peek to share!

This client wanted an urban, casual yet grown up, simple and green space on a fairly modest budget. I think we managed quite nicely and I am thrilled with how it turned out.

For my clients who think they recognize the Otis Chairs and Seguro Coffee Table: you certainly do. I was 100% honest when I told you “I like to use these a lot.” Because I do.

I really like the textures here, and the way that the neutral walls give the art some room to breathe. …and those vintage wallpaper bolts by the fireplace are a favorite find of mine from Trohv.

Hope you like it, too!

Color Friday is: Copper!

3 Nov

I love this time of year and all of the rusty shades of copper that are blowing in the trees. With the storm last week notwithstanding, the weather is crisp and the leaves are gorgeous. In fact, in DC, it’s almost impossible to tell we had any bad weather at all. That said, I’m hoping all my readers and clients who are negatively impacted by floods and storm damage and power outages recover quickly and fully.

Since this week’s thrown everyone for a loop, I’m bringing you Color Friday – Copper! – a day late this week. If you love this rustic shade as much as I do, check out an older round-up: there’s a lot of copper to go around! Enjoy, and stay warm!

Color Friday is: Red!

19 Oct

This week’s Color Friday – Red! –  is inspired by a few red things I’ve recently sourced for clients that are particularly fabulous. The glass pendant is one of my favorite recent finds; but I’ll give you  fair warning that it’s a light fixture on the pricier side, especially for its small stature!

Enjoy these fun red finds, and have a great weekend!  Mine is bookended with two school workdays and a sick husband, but thankfully I’m caught up on work and can relax for a few hours. Finally! Hope you’re up to something fun!

Color (sort of) Friday: Colorful!

12 Oct

I am loving just about everything I see over at LEIF right now. Especially these very colorful new arrivals!

1. Magnets   2. Tray   3. Sculpture   4. Blanket

It reminds me of this Color Friday from back in February: Crazy Colorful! Yes, it’s a repeat (I’m trying to keep up…!)…but still, it’s lovely!

Have a great weekend!
