Last night, on Valentine’s Day, I took my Corcoran students on a field trip to Room and Board and Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. I was super impressed (and surprised) that so many of them showed up on a night that’s usually full of dinners/celebrating/friendly commiserating, and as usual I was thrilled to see all the incredible pieces at both of these stores. We learned a lot about fabrics and vendors, and we saw new things to add to our “must buy” lists. I even walked away with a few new favorites; I tend to run in and out of both R&B and Mitchell Gold frequently, but it’s often for a specific item or swatch and I rarely take the time to wander through without a focus. It was great to be able to relax and explore.
Here is my new favorite thing from Room and Board:

Room and Board's Chevron Pillow in Ink (top L), Spice (bottom L) and Melon, (R). Each is $139. (images via Room and Board)
…and my new favorite thing from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams:

Too Sexy Sadie Chair from Mitchell Gold, price varies with upholstery selection. (image via Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams)
In the D.C. store this chair was upholstered in a glorious gold-toned fabric with a wipe-off vinyl-feel. No idea what the fabric name or material content was, but I’ll surely be back to find out. It was a fantastically unexpected pairing; that said, I love this bold black and white stripe, too.
Two great stores with gorgeous textiles, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and pieces with wide appeal and versatility. A big thanks to Scott at Room and Board and Patrick at Mitchell Gold for showing us around!
