More Map-tastic Things For Your Home

I’ve posted about Ork Posters and Florian Pucher’s Land Carpet, so obviously I have thing for well-designed and geographically relevant stuff  that you can walk on, lay on, or hang on your wall.  A few more things have caught my eye this week, and here they are in no particular order.  I have to confess though, as a loyal DC resident, I’m pretty reluctant to post anything that doesn’t feature our fair city. So you’ve been warned about my prejudices.

Haptic Lab makes some beautiful Readymade Quilts using both machine and hand sewing techniques. They will do custom orders, but luckily they have several quilts ready to head to your home – all starting at about $95. Not only are they beautiful and crazy comfortable, but they’re machine washable and 100% cotton — great for kids!

Etsy seller Love California makes handmade pillows in the shape of states. I know, Etsy often sounds kind of hit or miss, but these look incredible and very well-crafted.  You can get one made of your very own corner of the country for $52; there are tons of colors to choose from.  I think these pillows would be a great gift for a kid just heading off to college — one for the home state, and one for the school state!  I do wish there were some sample DC pillows featured in the store; the diamond is such a great shape to work with!

Finally, if you like kitsch and loud graphics, you can put your city’s entire subway map in your bathroom…on the shower curtain. I’ve seen these before, especially ones featuring NYC, but I haven’t ever seen a DC metro map. Izola Shower has filled the void and now you can score one of your own for $29. Don’t tell anyone, but I’ve seem them on sites like Gilt Groupe and One King’s Lane for $15 (don’t know what I’m talking about? Stay tuned for another post next week…).

Hope your find these finds as fun as I do!  They may not be for you French Country fans, but they make great gifts and are sure to put a smile on your face.

For someone who is very geographically challenged, I really love maps. I was fortunate enough to find a great old school roller map at a thrift store and used in our old apartment as a window shade… it was a great way to hide the boring standard issue white blinds that came with the place. Thanks for sharing more cool map designs.

Those are great coasters. I have two other coasters to post about some time, maybe I’ll include these (and credit you) 🙂
